Facing the enemy

As temperatures drop, heaters are on, and the wind whips up, the battle for healthy skin becomes more challenging. Dry air takes away the thin layer of oil that traps moisture in the skin, flaring itchy and painful conditions such and severe dry skin, chapped lips, cold sores and fever blisters. Any trauma to the skin, such as cracking, causes an inflammatory response, which can make skin more susceptible to flare-ups.

Shower briefly

When it's cold outside, some of us prolong our hot showers, which is a recipe for dry, irritated skin. Instead try to keep the shower as brief as possible and use lukewarm, not hot, water. Switch to less aggressive soap made for sensitive skin and gently pat yourself dry to avoid traumatizing or overdrying the skin.

Get comfortable - Dress for less irritation and more ventilation

If your skin does flare up, choose soft, breathable fabrics, like cotton, instead of itchy woolens or polyester. Loose-fitting clothing will also help to keep your skin from chafing and becoming irritated by perspiration.

Change the air around you

Although we always advise a warm dry climate, If you're in an environment where it's extremely dry, you're actually going to dry your skin out even more. To combat this, we suggest placing a humidifier in the room. This will help moisturize your skin without the need of creams and serums.

Stay Healthy

Because a lot of skin issues involve immune system responses, experts believe that many infections can make them worse. Follow basic steps to keep yourself healthy, like washing your hands frequently, getting good sleep, and exercising.

Relieve Stress

Winter can bring stress, being under pressure, and trying to get things done before the “snow hits” certainly can trigger skin problems and flare-ups. Look for ways—such as exercise, meditation and yoga,—to relieve winter-related stress.

Combat Chapped Lips, Cold Sores and Fever Blisters

The winter is the primary season for chapped lips, cold sores and fever blisters. There are several triggers that can set off the development of any of these pesky trio’s, some of which are difficult to avoid. Fatigue, stress and extreme weather conditions are just a few of the common triggers. All of these triggers are active during winter; many people tend to suffer more during that season than any other time of the year. However, there are ways to minimize outbreaks. Know the symptoms; as soon as you feel one of these nasty conditions near, you need to take action with Fenvir before a full outbreak occurs.

Prevent and Soothe Irritated Winter Skin

Winter is hard on skin. Smooth, supple, and soft skin can turn red, chapped, and rough by February. The main culprit? Lack of internal moisture. During winter, the humidity in the outside air plunges. Inside, things are even drier, thanks to indoor heating. If you're washing frequently to avoid catching a cold or the flu, you could sap whatever natural oils are left in your skin. That can leave your skin so dehydrated that it cracks, peels, and even bleeds. To treat parched, scaly skin, you need to replace the moisture that your thirsty skin is missing. Drinking water helps restore moisture from the inside out. Drink at least 8-12 8oz glasses a day to hydrate your body and sole.
